Questions & Answers
TASC™ Debit Card
What is a TASC ™ Debit Card?A TASC™ Debit Card is like a bank debit card except it can only be used for medical expenses or dependent child care expenses. This card looks like a credit card, but it works like a check that pays out of the administrator's checking account. Each card will have a maximum amount of money that can be used for paying medical expenses or child care expenses. The amount of money available from the TASC™ Debit Card is selected by the employee at the beginning of each Plan year. The convenience for the employee is that they do not have to pay for expenses in advance and wait for reimbursement.
What is the procedure for using the TASC™ Debit Card?
When you go to a provider for covered expenses, you simply swipe your TASC™ Debit Card instead of paying for these expenses out of your pocket. The cost will automatically be deducted from your balance. You do not have to submit a receipt to Benefit Elect of Texas for each transaction. However, you need to keep your receipts for all expenses you pay with the TASC™ Debit Card in case they are requested by Benefit Elect of Texas for verification.
What about prescription drugs?
The same procedure will apply to prescription drugs. When you go to the drug store you can use your TASC™ Debit Card to pay for prescription drugs during the Plan year.
What about eyeglasses and contact lenses?
You can use your TASC™ Debit Card to pay for eyeglasses and contact lenses. However, if you order your contacts through the mail, you will have to pay them yourself and submit your receipt to Benefit Elect of Texas to receive a manual reimbursement. The TASC™ Debit Card is only available for on-site transactions.
What happens if I accidentally use my TASC™ Debit Card for expenses that are not eligible for reimbursement?
If the charge is not disallowed automatically, it will be your responsibility to repay the account for the misuse. If this is not rectified, you will lose the benefit of having the TASC™ Debit Card. We will allow one misuse before your card will be deactivated. If you continue to misuse the card, your card will be cancelled and all future claims will be reimbursed through the manual claims filing process.
Do I have to participate in the TASC™ Debit Card?
No. You may continue to submit receipts and receive manual reimbursements.
Can I request a TASC™ Debit Card for my spouse?
Yes. You may request one additional card for your spouse or dependent child.
What if my card or my dependent's TASC™ Debit Card is lost or stolen?
You must notify Benefit Elect of Texas at 1-800-257-0986 as soon as possible in order to deactivate your existing card and have a new one issued. As long as you notify Benefit Elect of Texas within 60 days, you will not be responsible for any charges made to the card by a third party.
What if I am not happy with the services rendered?
You must notify the provider by certified letter that you are not satisfied with the services rendered and send a copy of your letter to Benefit Elect of Texas. If the provider refuses to credit you for the amount you are questioning, the TASC™ Debit Card administrators will then try to resolve the issue or they will reimburse your account for the amount of the dispute. (Example: You purchased a pair of eyeglasses you could not wear and the optician refused to give your money back. He also refuses or fails to fix the problem. After receiving your certified letter and notification from the debit card service company, the optician still will not fix the problem. The debit card service will then send a credit to your TASC™ Debit Card account for the amount of the glasses.)
