Section 125 "Cafeteria Plan" Administration What is a Section 125 Flexible Employee Benefits Plan?
An IRS approved plan that allows employers to provide voluntary benefit plans to their employees. Employees may elect to participate in any or all of the benefits and have the premiums for those plans deducted from their check on a pre-tax basis.
These plans include but are not limited to:- Medical Insurance
- Dental Insurance
- Vision Insurance
- Section 79 Group Life Insurance
- Voluntary Supplemental Benefits
- Flexible Spending Accounts
How does this plan work?The plan allows you to elect benefits from a menu of options and have the premiums for those plans deducted on a pre-tax basis. This results in a more economically priced benefits portfolio. How do I sign up?Prior to the beginning of each Plan year, all employees must make an election, in writing, detailing theirbenefit choices. How can I change my elections?All elections are irrevocable during the Plan year unless you experience a qualified change in your family status.
Qualified changes in status include:- Marriage
- Divorce
- Birth or Adoption of a Child
- Death of a Spouse or Child
- Change in employment status of a Spouse
